Carol Geiger, MA, MEd, LPC

Clinical Director

After completing her MA in Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary, Carol lived and worked for a number of years as a bilingual counselor in both outpatient and community mental health settings in Bogota, Colombia.  In Bogota, Carol was mentored by the American psychologist, Gilbert Brenson, who, as a former student of the pioneering psychiatrist, Milton Ericson, was working to further mental health awareness in Colombia.  Carol studied under Brenson at the Instituto Neohumanista de Bogota, where she developed her skills in structural family therapy, originated by Salvador Minuchin and others. This model was believed to be a more relevant approach to meeting the needs of Colombian families. Carol also had the opportunity to work in an impoverished neighborhood as part of a community mental health center and to serve as a crisis counselor, subsequent to the disaster caused by a volcanic eruption that buried a small town. While in Colombia, Carol obtained additional training in educational therapy and worked to develop the educational therapy department of a private school.

Upon returning to the United States, Carol worked in several agencies with children, adolescents, and  adults in educational therapy, psychiatric partial hospitalization programs, psychiatric and psychological evaluations, bilingual outpatient therapy, and clinical supervision of an in-home family-based program.  Most recently, Carol has served as an adjunct professor in the MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Lancaster Bible College   Capital Seminary and Graduate School, with a focus on clinical supervision, preparing graduate students to enter the field. Current clinical interests lie in the areas of trauma and recovery, mind-body approaches, and systemic wholeness for individuals, couples, and families. In addition, Carol develops and curates Truman Counseling’s corporate wellness initiatives as we attend to mental health needs and wellbeing in corporate settings.
